following Jackson County Road Commission established guidelines.

Due to declining revenues, increased costs, especially fuel, and related budget limitations the Jackson County Road Commission will be reducing services during the 2007/2008 winter maintenance season.

The following Winter Maintenance guidelines will attempt to be achieved by all county maintenance crews:

Multi-lane and County Primary Roads
Crews will attempt to achieve a bare pavement prior to moving to lesser priority roadways.

Paved Local Roads
Roadways may be left with two wheel tracks per lane and ribbons of snow bladed to minimize snow build up.

Local Gravel Roads
Roadways will be scraped either the day of the event or the next day. Curves, hills, and intersections will be sanded when determined necessary by the Area Superintendent. Overtime work will be limited on these roads.

Subdivision Streets / Roads
Roadways will be scraped either the day of the event or the next day. Curves, hills, and intersections will be sanded when determined necessary by the Area Superintendent. Overtime work will be limited on these roads.

Plowing Your Driveways
By state law, residents are prohibited from plowing snow, ice or slush onto or across roadways or highways. In addition, snow must not be piled in such a way as to obstruct motorists’ vision.

Don’t Crowd the Plow!!!
Motorists should keep a safe distance between their vehicles and snowplows. Plowing may result in a cloud of snow limiting visibility. Always watch for the unexpected.

DON’T LET CHILDREN PLAY IN ROADSIDE SNOW BANKS AND HAVE THEM STAND BACK FROM ROADWAY WHEN WAITING FOR THE SCHOOL BUS.
